There are two different types of basic fiber optic testing. Tier 1 refers to the most accurate test measuring insertion loss or attenuation on the link. This test will accurately tell you how much light signal is lost on the way from location A to location B. Tier 2 is a more in depth look at the individual events on a fiber link. The test will let you know how far away connections or faults are which helps locate trouble spots more easily. You will be able to tell the amount of loss at each fault and also use this information with your Tier 1 test to make a good prediction about how functional your fiber optic link will be.
Beyond Tier 1 and 2 testing we have many other types of test documents we procure for our customers. We take great care working in and around sensitive environments that often house the end points of fiber components under test. These components are photographed, located and notated as needed to provide a most encompassing test package to be delivered to our customers the next day.
Standard procedure prior to test includes utilizing the industry’s best in fiber optic test equipment capturing imagery of the smallest defects, seeking out any unwanted bends or losses generally found within a few feet of the end point and thorough documentation for each fiber based on specific customer needs.
